The Pathway

What Is the BEM Professional Assessment Examination (PAE)?

The PAE is the Board of Engineers Malaysia’s outcome-based assessment for Graduate Engineers on the route to Professional Engineer (P.Eng / Ir.). It assesses your engineering competency report and experience, a professional interview, and written components including ethics under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967.

1 · Graduate Engineer

Register with BEM after an accredited engineering degree, then build ≥3 years of relevant experience.

2 · PAE Preparation

You are here. Competency/experience report, ethics & management readiness, interview preparation.

3 · P.Eng / Ir.

Pass BEM’s assessment and register as a Professional Engineer with legal recognition in Malaysia.

4 · PCE → PEPC

Later tier: the Professional Competency Examination leads to Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate.

This programme prepares you for the PAE stage of the journey from Graduate Engineer to Professional Engineer Malaysia. PEPC requires BEM’s separate PCE after P.Eng registration.

Why Now

Why the July Cohort Is the Smart Intake

⏱️ Mentoring done by mid-August

Workshop on 18–19 July means your report review, mock interview and MyBEM submission guidance complete by mid-August — ahead of the next BEM submission window, not scrambling at year-end.

💰 The deadline behind the deadline

HRD Corp SBL-Khas grant applications need processing lead time before the training date. If your employer is sponsoring you, registering this week is what makes the grant feasible.

🪑 20 seats — structurally, not artificially

The cap is what makes line-by-line report reviews and individual mock interviews possible. When July is full, the next comparable intake is 22–23 August.

Registration closes Tuesday 14 July 2026. See all 2026 intake dates →

Who It’s For

Built for Engineers Who Are Ready — On Paper or Not

From Graduate Engineer to Professional Engineer: if you meet BEM’s eligibility (BEM-registered Graduate Engineer, accredited degree, ≥3 years relevant experience), this cohort is for you. All disciplines join the same cohort — Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Electronics — with individual guidance on reports.

🎓 Graduate Engineers

Eligible but unsure what a “good” Experience Report looks like. Draft it right the first time, under P.Eng guidance.

⚙️ Engineers 3–10 Years In

Experience piling up, submission postponed every year. Four structured weeks ends the “next year” cycle.

🏗️ Senior Engineers

Your title doesn’t reflect your responsibility — and you can’t sign off designs. Convert 10+ years of work into a submission-ready portfolio.

🏢 Sponsoring Organisations

Tenders and sign-offs need P.Eng signatories. Send engineers; get back submission-ready candidates. Corporate cohorts →

Deliverables

Leave With Documents, Not To-Do Lists

By the end of Week 4, every Hybrid participant has produced — not planned — the following:

📄 Completed Experience Report

Drafted from Day 1 and reviewed line-by-line against BEM’s Outcome-Based Competency framework — an engineering competency report ready for Malaysia’s PAE.

🎞️ Technical Presentation Deck

A structured slide deck for your professional interview, outlined in the workshop and refined during mentoring.

🎤 Rehearsed Interview

PAE interview preparation done properly: you’ve already faced the ethics and technical questioning in the mock “Hot Seat” — with debrief coaching.

🔗 Guided MyBEM Submission

Your documents audited against the checklist and uploaded to the MyBEM portal under expert governance before you submit.
